Improving wellness among people who are distressed

Castelloe Family Foundation has two major goals: (1) to alleviate the harmful effects of poverty, systemic oppressions, and human distress; and (2) to improve wellness among people who are economically or socially marginalized or distressed.

To achieve these goals, we focus most of our work on The Wellness Research Project, which has three main areas of focus: (1) Wellness and the Alleviation of Childhood Traumas (e.g., research on Positive Childhood Experiences), (2) Wellness and the Alleviation of Educator Stress (e.g. research on Educator Wellness), and (3) Wellness and the Alleviation of Human Distress (e.g., research on Volunteering and Wellness).

Wellness Research

The Wellness Research Project focuses on three areas: wellness and childhood traumas, educator wellness, and volunteering and wellness.

  • We map and research Positive Childhood Experiences as a buffer to childhood traumas.

  • We research educator wellness in low-wealth, diverse schools; this is related to teacher retention and academic achievement.

  • We research the impact of volunteering and wellness and the alleviation of distress.

– Audre Lorde
